Pavel Durov, the billionaire founder and CEO of Telegram, was reportedly detained on Saturday at Bourget Airport near Paris. He was arriving on his private jet from Azerbaijan when local authorities took him into custody.
The investigation into Durov focuses on the lack of moderators on Telegram, with police alleging that this has facilitated criminal activities on the platform.
Earlier this year, Durov spoke about the ongoing challenges he has faced from global authorities, particularly from Russia and the United States, during an interview with Tucker Carlson.
Telegram is renowned for its strong encryption, and Durov has consistently declined government requests for a backdoor key for investigative purposes.

The TON token, associated with Telegram, experienced a sharp decline of up to 17% following reports of Durov's arrest in France. Currently, TON is trading at just over $5.83, reflecting a 14% decrease in the past few hours.
